Death of the Information Expert.

What Happens When Knowledge Stops Being Rare?

The world is fundamentally changing, and we can no longer pretend it isn’t.

I see a lot of thoughtful leaders and high-capacity humans feeling unsettled right now, even if many can’t fully explain why.

The world is changing incredibly fast and there’s this unsettling feeling that something important and fundamental is shifting underneath us, but we still cannot fully see where all of this is leading yet.

And I’m not surprised. So much of what was once considered valuable is becoming commoditised, devalued, instant, automated, and endlessly replicated.

For most of human history, information itself had value simply because access was limited. If you wanted to learn about trauma, communication, mindfulness, or even spirituality, you often had to go through a teacher, a school, a certification, a practitioner, a book, or a workshop. There was friction between what you knew and what knowledge was available, and because of that, people paid partly for access to that information.

Now however, that access is everywhere, all at once.

Someone can open AI and ask:
“How do I regulate my anxiety?”
“How do I create better boundaries?”
“What’s attachment theory?”
“How do I reframe my negative thinking?”
“How do I support clients with…(fill in the blank)?”
“What questions would a therapist ask?”

And they’ll get reasonably decent answers instantly. No waiting for business hours, no lag whatsoever, just answers within seconds!

This is the new reality, and it’s literally turning our world upside down and inside out, making many of us feel like we’ve been thrown into a washing machine on high spin without ever agreeing to get in.

The entire human ecosystem is shifting underneath us in real time, and none of us has the scaffolding or the answers for how to move through it.

So what’s actually happening here?

For a long time, education and expert status were largely built around access to information and structured learning. Now we’re entering a world where information alone is no longer enough. People can access endless knowledge within seconds. They can learn theories, frameworks, psychology, leadership concepts, therapeutic techniques, or business advice without ever stepping into a classroom.

And in many ways, that’s incredible.

But it also destabilises entire industries, identities, and professions built around being the gatekeepers of specialised knowledge that is now becoming accessible to almost everyone at the click of a button.

And I think that’s partly why so many people who built businesses or careers around packaging and selling information are feeling shaky right now, whether they admit it or not.

If your entire business, profession, or role can be replaced by a decent prompt, the foundation underneath it suddenly starts looking far thinner than what’s comfortable to admit.

If someone can ask AI how to regulate anxiety, process grief, write a business plan, structure a coaching session, or even compose music, then what happens to the need for therapists, teachers, coaches… even creators?

And what happens to experts and leaders when access to information and technical skill are no longer rare?

I admit… it can feel a bit doom and gloom right now… but it’s not all bad.

💌 Let me give you the good news…

Reciting wisdom and living wisdom are two very different things and where we’re heading, I believe that distinction makes all the difference.

Let me explain.

Someone can learn something cognitively, even understand it enough to be able to talk about it, but it’s not the same thing as embodying it. Same as someone can learn all the leadership lingo, strategies, and structures on paper, but that’s not the same as leading under pressure. Knowing something is one thing, embodying it is a totally different game. And if you ask me, the latter is the only game worth focusing on.

Gone are the days when repeating information could masquerade as wisdom, or when access to information alone made something or someone valuable.

But if you’re someone who knows how to hold people, understand nuance, and facilitate transformation rather than regurgitate information, there is real opportunity here…

Despite all the information available, people still have a deep need to be understood, seen, and heard.

Which is why, as a leader, you have a huge opportunity right now. If you choose to accept it (cue Mission Impossible theme tune 🎵).

No matter if your space is the classroom, boardroom, studio, clinic, or office, the leaders who will become increasingly valuable in the coming years are the ones who can hold others through complexity because they’ve learnt to hold themselves.

It will be the ones who can create rooms, conversations, environments, and experiences where real transformation happens. The ones who understand human behaviour beyond performance and polished language.

Yes, AI can generate information really well.
It can mimic language and summarise ideas.
It can even produce decent frameworks and content.

But it cannot embody wisdom, replace human presence, or understand nuance and emotional depth.
And it cannot sit inside the messiness of being human…

Which is why, ironically as it may sound, I think the more artificial the world becomes, the more valuable our human traits will become.

Think about it… what remains deeply valuable when knowledge stops being rare?

If your value can be replicated by a prompt, you may be fighting in a losing battle.
But if your work is about depth, connection, and things deeply human, AI may actually make your gifts even more relevant.

Tell me… How can you become so deeply human in your work, leadership, or business that your value is unquestionable and competing with machines becomes irrelevant?
