Embrace Your Anxiety

Hey Sensitive Soul, Embrace Your Anxiety!

As a creative and highly anxious person, I know firsthand the challenges that come along with this mental health condition.

Anxiety can be an ongoing struggle for many Creatives & High Achievers. Sometimes we may look like we are doing ok, even though we may be suffering on the inside.

Anxiety can make even the simplest tasks feel overwhelming and can often feel like a heavy burden to carry around. However, I’ve learned that it’s important to embrace all parts of me and use my experiences to help others who may also be suffering.

I’ve found that the best way to manage anxiety is through self-care and seeking support from others. This has included things like tending to my creativity, going to therapy, exercising, journalling and meditating. I’ve also learned to talk openly about my struggles with friends and family, which has been a huge source of comfort and validation.

Anxiety does not have to be a weakness and make you doubt yourself and your abilities, it can also be an opportunity to grow. But only if we turn towards it instead of away from it.

As someone who has dealt with anxiety in both personal and professional settings throughout my career, I believe mental health support should be a priority in every area of our lives. We need to be able to have open, honest conversations about anxiety and support those who may be struggling. This includes things like checking in on the ones we love, being empathic to strangers who may be having a rough day and creating a culture of compassion and understanding.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone if you’re struggling. There’s tremendous strength in the act of asking for support. You do not have to be alone in this. 🧡

Here’s a little art project which may help you see the positive aspects of yourself called Creating a personal shield.

PS: This is NOT a project to make “beautiful art”, this is about creative expression for mental wellbeing so don’t be afraid to try it! I hope it serves you.

How to do it:
1: Draw a shield on a piece of paper and divide it into 4-6 parts.
2: Choose 4-6 personal strengths you hold, and add them to each section of your shield.
3: Colour the areas with the colours that match your strengths.
